South Africa Travel Itinerary

Wheres and Whens

map of South Africa

The trip begins on January 3rd. We fly out of Seattle to San Francisco. From California we fly to Frankfurt Germany. We have a 12 hour lay-over in Frankfurt (ugh!) and leave in the evening. We land in Cape Town on the morning of the 5th. The flight is all courtesy of Laura’s frequent flier miles.

Our plan is to spend a few days in Cape Town taking in the sights and then we’ll head out with the car down the N2 highway that runs along the coast. Along the way, we’ll be staying at bed & breakfast places in Mossel Bay and Addo. We should be seeing a lot of the coast.

Eventually, we will hook up with the Bergen-Dycks in East London. We will spend several days with Brian, Lynell and the boys in Umtata. This will include a trip with them out to Coffee Bay and to a game reserve. Hopefully we’ll learning first hand what it’s like to live and work in South Africa.

We leave from Cape Town, so we’ll have to drive back on week 3. We’ll drive through the interior of the country back to Cape Town spending a few nights at a B&B in the wine country. Our flight home is again through Frankfurt, this time with a reasonable 3 hour lay-over. Then back to Seattle via Chicago.

I used a shareware program called WebCalX to transfer my iCal calendar to html, but I modified the output pretty extensively; to the point where it probably would have been easier to just write my own transfer program.
